Roman Horák (born May 21, 1991 in Budweis , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Växjö Lakers from Svenska Hockeyligan since June 2018 and plays on the position of the center . His father Roman Horák senior was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Horák comes from the offspring of HC České Budějovice , for whom he was active until summer 2009. There he went through the entire youth department up to the U20 team and from there, as a 17-year-old, made the jump to the first team operating under HC Mountfield , which was fighting for championship points in the extra league. After reaching the age of majority, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the fifth round in 127th position by the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League .

The striker then moved to the North American continent, but initially in the Western Hockey League to the Chilliwack Bruins , who had secured transfer rights in the North American junior division via the CHL Import Draft Horáks. The attacker spent two seasons with the Bruins, played a total of 141 games and collected 134 points . In May 2011, he was finally signed by the New York Rangers, but only a month later together with two second-round voting rights in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft to the Calgary Flames . In return, the Rangers received Swedish defender Tim Erixon and a five-round vote in the same draft. In his first year as a professional, the Czech managed to get a regular place in the Calgary squad, before he was used more often in the farm team , the Abbotsford Heat , in the following game year . After nothing changed in this situation at the beginning of the 2013/14 game year , Horák moved to the Edmonton Oilers together with goalkeeper Laurent Brossoit . In exchange, goalkeeper Olivier Roy and Ladislav Šmíd went to the Flames. Horák ended the season in the jersey of Edmonton's farm team, the Oklahoma City Barons . For the Oilers themselves, he had only been on the ice twice in the NHL.

After the offensive player's three-year NHL entry contract had expired, he returned to Europe in the summer of 2014 . There he signed an annual contract with the Russian club HK Vitjas from the Continental Hockey League . Vitjas extended the contract early in 2015 and 2016 for one and two years respectively. In the summer of 2018 he decided to move and was signed by the Växjö Lakers from Svenska Hockeyligan .

International

Horák represented the Czech Republic in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championship in Division I in 2008 , where the team was promoted back to the top division, and in the following year at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2009 . He was also on the ice at the U20 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2011 .

The striker made his debut for the men's national team as part of the Euro Hockey Tour and has been part of the squad since 2014.
