Samir Handanovič (born July 14, 1984 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian football goalkeeper . He has been playing for Inter Milan in Serie A since July 2012 . His older cousin Jasmin Handanovič is also a professional footballer.

Career

After he hardly got any working time at the beginning at Udinese Calcio , he was loaned out to FBC Treviso , Lazio Rome and Rimini Calcio one after another . Since 2007 he has been a regular goalkeeper at Udinese. In August 2011 he extended his contract until the end of June 2016.

In the summer break of 2012, he moved to league rivals Inter Milan . Udinese, however, retained part of the transfer rights. The Milanese transferred eleven million euros in return and ceded 50 percent of the transfer rights from Davide Faraoni to Udinese. In June 2013, Inter acquired the remaining transfer shares in Handanovič.

National team

Handanovič has played in the Slovenian national team since 2004 . With this Handanovič took part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , where he was on the pitch in all games of his team over the full season, but could not prevent the Slovenian team from being eliminated in the preliminary round.

Samir Handanovič is a Bosniak . His parents were originally from the Bosnian-Herzegovinian town of Sanski Most , however, attracted in the former Yugoslavia for professional reasons in the Republic of Slovenia after Ljubljana .

His older cousin Jasmin Handanovič is also a goalkeeper.
