San Benito is a city in Cameron County in the US state of Texas . The urban area has a size of 29 km² and lies in the catchment area of ​​the Brownsville - Harlingen metropolitan area . Geographically, San Benito is located in the western center of Cameron County. Located just five kilometers southeast of Harlingen, the city of Rio Hondo and the small towns of Green Valley Farms, Lago and El Camino Angosto are in the immediate vicinity . San Benito goes back to a settlement built by the Spanish at the end of the 18th century .
