history

SaxBus buses at the Eilenburg train station
Eilenburg depot

The company was formed after the turn of the above for the public transport responsible VEB motor transport. Sax-Bus Eilenburger Busverkehr GmbH was founded on August 17, 1993, shortly afterwards the first overall timetable for the districts of Eilenburg , Wurzen and Grimma of the former Central Muldental Association was valid. In 2000, SaxBus opened a new depot in Eilenburg, from which a gradually modernized bus fleet ensured bus traffic in the Eilenburg / Bad Düben region. In 2001, SaxBus was a founding member of the Central German Transport Association (MDV), and two years later the French Connex Group became the majority shareholder in the company. In 2014, SaxBus lost the tender for the previously served line bundle 3 in the district of Northern Saxony and therefore had to cease operations on August 23, 2015. The lost tender was preceded by protracted differences of opinion with the North Saxony District Office about the scope of the future operation of the route network. The successor to the Eilenburg line bundle has been the Vetter bus company from Zörbig , which took over the former SaxBus depot, since August 24, 2015 .

Catchment area and network of routes

With 13 lines, SaxBus was the largest bus company in the area of the former Delitzsch district . The catchment area of SaxBus extended over the entire former district of Eilenburg with the two cities of Eilenburg and Bad Düben. The line network opened up the area around the cities of Eilenburg and Bad Düben and established connections with the medium-sized centers of Torgau and Bitterfeld , with the city of Taucha and the regional center of Leipzig . In addition, there were the two Eilenburg city bus routes, which connected the outer parts of the city with the center and the train station in the Mitte district. The city traffic of Bad Düben linked the surrounding villages to the city center.

Vehicle fleet

Since the company was founded, work has been carried out on the renewal of the bus fleet. The vehicles that have been newly acquired since 2003 were given a blue and white paintwork in accordance with the corporate design of the Connex Group at the time , which was retained until operations were closed.
