history
Dwellings on stilts have been identified as early as the Neolithic or Bronze Age . The settlement was first mentioned in 1150 as Scherzingen . In the Middle Ages, Scherzingen was part of the Bischofshöri Konstanz and was later under the Bailiwick of Eggen until 1798 .
The Münsterlingen monastery acquired the tithe in 1280 from the cathedral monastery of Konstanz and in 1289 from the ministerials of Kastell . The parish of Münsterlingen, which included Scherzingen, Bottighofen, Kurzrickenbach until 1709 and Oberhofen from 1712 , was closely connected to the monastery for a long time and converted to the Reformation early on. In 1617/18 the monastery built a reformed church in Scherzingen as the patron saint .
From 1911 to 1993 there was a fruit processing cooperative in Scherzingen. Founded in 1886, the Rutishauser winery belongs to the Dutch Baarsma Wine Group, achieved sales of almost 40 million francs in 2010 and filled around three million bottles of wine. After Scherzingen continued to grow arable, wine, fruit and grass well into the 20th century, it has largely lost its rural character.
