The von Michelbach are recorded in 1381 with Heinrich von Michelbach , dean in the Bartholomäusstift of Frankfurt am Main and canon canon of Aschaffenburg , 1387 with his brother Hermann von Michelbach, cleric and scholar in Frankfurt and from 1395 vicar at the Bartholomäusstift. Wrede had the castle rebuilt in its current form in 1700 and then used it as a baroque aristocratic country residence. A Marquis Gerard du Chastler is mentioned as the later owner , in 1824 it came to Julie von Warendorf , around 1855 Karl Edmund Ritter von Horstig, called von Engelbrunner, is named.
