Sertan Eser (born March 18, 1974 in Nuremberg ) is a former German - Turkish soccer player and coach. Because of his work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is associated with this club.

Player career

society

Eser was born to parents of Turkish origin in Nuremberg . He started playing club football here at the age of six in the youth teams of local amateur clubs, before finally returning to Turkey with his family in 1984. At the age of 21 he started playing as an amateur player for the third division side Antalya Köy Hizmetleri SK . By the end of the season, the winger scored nine goals and attracted attention with his speed. So signed him in the spring of 1993, the first division Konyaspor . At this club he sat on the bench until the last match days and was only used after the club missed the mathematically still possible promotion. By the end of the season he had played four games and scored one goal. After relegation Eser went to the 2nd Futbol Ligi with Konyaspor . Here he made it straight away to become a regular player. In the league, which was held in two stages at the time, his team missed participation in the promotion round in the qualifying round. Instead, Eser's team had to play in the relegation round against relegation and for qualification at the playoffs of the league. Konyaspor ended the relegation round with a 12 point lead as the first in the table and made it into the playoffs. Here the team failed in the semifinals with 2: 3 to Antalyaspor . Eser had a significant share in these successes with 20 league goals, was the most successful goalscorer of his team, second on the scorers list of the second division season 1993/94 and was a regular U-21 international.

Due to his good performance at Konyaspor, he made it into the transfer list of many top division clubs. Beşiktaş Istanbul tried hardest for Eser's service. The German trainer Christoph Daum worked here at the time . He compared the dribbling left winger Eser with his former player Pierre Littbarski and urged his club to sign Eser. After long transfer negotiations, Eser switched to the Istanbul team for a transfer fee of 7.5 billion Turkish lira , which was very high for the time . At Beşiktaş, Eser competed in the storm with players like Ertuğrul Sağlam , Oktay Derelioğlu , Ali giltiken , Serdar Topraktepe and Metin Tekin . Under these circumstances, Eser completed only 23 league games by the end of the season, of which he only played three full game length and fell short of expectations overall. With his club he was Turkish champion of the 1994/95 season . For the new season, Beşiktaş continued to strengthen and brought on the players Stefan Kuntz , Orhan Kaynak and Mustafa Özkan for the storm . These commitments made it even more difficult for Eser to fight for stakes. So he completed only 17th league games in his second season for Beşiktaş. In the summer of 1997, Beşiktaş replaced Christoph Daum with Rasim Kara and signed the Nigerian international striker Daniel Amokachi for Stefan Kuntz who had migrated . With this new constellation, the pre-season TSYD Istanbul Cup was won, while Eser was only used in one game of this cup tournament. Eser completed only six games this season in which he was used as a substitute for only a few minutes. The season ended his club behind Galatasaray Istanbul as runner-up.

The 1997/98 season started Beşiktaş again with a change of coach and signed the Welsh John Toshack as the new head coach. Under this coach Eser took part in the pre-season preparatory camp, but was then placed on the list of players to be loaned or sold. Eser was loaned to the second division Adanaspor for the upcoming season . This club was bought shortly before by billionaire Cem Uzan to İstanbulspor . Uzan was a patron of both clubs . After Istanbulspor was brought into the top Turkish league, the 1st league , by buying stars and talents in the summer of 1995 , the same concept was now applied to Adanaspor. For this purpose, the club brought in first division proven stars, including Eser. At the end of the season, the team reached the runner-up in the 2nd league behind Erzurumspor and thus direct promotion to the 1st league. Eser contributed five goals to this success in 26 games.

After this success with Adanaspor, Eser returned to Beşiktaş and was loaned to Yozgatspor for the coming season . With this club Eser made it in the playoffs of the 2nd division, but failed here in the semifinals to Çaykur Rizespor . For the next season Eser was loaned to the second division club Sakaryaspor . This loan contract was canceled a few weeks ago and Eser was loaned to the first division club Istanbulspor instead. At this club Eser formed the storm duo Istanbulspors with the aging star striker Aykut Kocaman and became the club's most successful goalscorer with nine goals this season. With this achievement he established himself in the 1st league. At the end of the season, his loan contract with Istanbulspor was extended for another year. In this second season he increased his previous year's performance and this time became the most successful goalscorer of his club with 16 goals this season. With this performance he was more successful than most of the Beşiktaş strikers. His contract with Beşiktaş, which expired in the summer of 2001, was extended by another two years and Eser was kept in the squad for the coming season. A decisive factor in his stay with Beşiktaş was also the fact that Eser's sponsor Christoph Daum was hired as head coach and he wanted Eser back in his team. At Beşiktaş, however, Eser failed to prevail against strikers İlhan Mansız , Ahmet Dursun and Nihat Kahveci .

After the second attempt to assert himself at Beşiktaş had failed, Eser left the club for good and moved to Malatyaspor within the league for the 2002/03 season . At this club he worked with the coach Ziya Doğan , under whom he had already trained at Istanbulspor and who also decisively influenced Eser's move to Malatyaspor. With this club Eser ended the season surprisingly on the 5th place in the table. He himself formed the team's storm with Fazlı Ulusoy and Hasan Özer and contributed to this success with ten goals this season and numerous assists.

Since Eser had only signed a one-year contract with Malatyaspor and he had several offers, he decided to leave the club. Instead, he moved to the more economically positioned club Bursaspor . However, this club experienced one of the worst periods in its history and rose from the Süper Lig at the end of the season of 37 years of membership in the first division . After this failure, Eser moved to Diyarbakırspor within the league .

There was also a restless mood at Diyarbakırspor. So he left the club for the next winter break and moved to the capital club Gençlerbirliği Ankara . At this club again worked his sponsor Ziya Doğan, who brought Eser to his team as one of his first official activities. The season ended the club in 6th place in the table and missed participation in the UEFA Intertoto Cup due to the poorer goal difference . With Gençlerbirliği, Eser won the pre-season TSYD Ankara Cup . After Doğan had left Gençlerbirliği after the 4th matchday of the season, Eser played until the next winter break and followed Doğan to his next club Malatyaspor. At that time there was a restless atmosphere at this club. Ziya Doğan was sacked during the second half of the season. After the club had missed relegation at the end of the season, Eser also went.

In the summer of 2006 he moved to the second division Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . Here Eser finished with his club as runner-up and rose to the Süper Lig. He was the most successful goalscorer of his club with ten league goals. After Eser had been in the Süper Lig for Istanbul BB for one season, he left this club.

For the 2008/09 season Eser moved to the second division Kasımpaşa Istanbul . At this club he formed the team's storm with Erhan Küçük . With five goals this season and final assists, he played a significant role in ensuring that the club was able to move up to the Süper Lig at the end of the season thanks to the playoff victory in the TFF 1st Lig . In the top league he was only used in two league games until the winter break. In the next winter break, he dissolved his contract by mutual agreement with the club and moved to the third division Sakaryaspor . At this club he played until March 2011 and then ended his playing career after a contract termination.

National team

Eser was nominated for the Turkish U-21 national team for the first time while at Konyaspor . In total, he completed nine U-21 internationals by 1995 in which he scored two goals.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Eser switched to coaching and has been training the Beşiktaş Istanbul youth team since 2013 .
