The St. Clair County is a county in the state of Alabama of the United States . The county seat is Ashville .

The county is located in northeastern Alabama, about 90 km to the east from Georgia , and has an area of 1,693 square kilometers, of which 51 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Etowah County , Calhoun County , Talladega County , Shelby County , Jefferson County, and Blount County .
history
St. Clair County was formed on November 20, 1818. It is named after the War of Independence general Arthur St. Clair .

According to the 2000 census , St. Clair County's population was 64,742. Of these, 1,903 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 24,143 households and 18,445 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.03 percent white, 8.13 percent African American, 0.37 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.41 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.06 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 24,143 households, 35.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. There were married couples living together in 62.8 percent, 10.0 percent were single mothers, 23.6 percent were non-families, 20.8 percent of all households were single households and 8.2 percent had people aged 65 and over or above. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.01.
25.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 and 24, 30.7 percent between 25 and 44, 24.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.7 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males and for females aged 18 and over there were 98.8 males.
The median income for a household in the 37,285 USD , and the median income for a family 43,152 USD. Males had a median income of $ 33,914 versus $ 24,433 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,960. 9.6 percent of families and 12.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
