location
The approximately 142 hectare large nature reserve urban forest is one natural area to Lippische Bergland . Its three sub-areas extend northwest of the Bad Salzufler town center along the federal highway 2 .
The area is part of the 211 hectare Natura 2000 area "Forest north of Bad Salzuflen" (DE-3818-302).
description
The protected area Stadtwald is described as a large, structurally rich forest area on the Obernberg with near-natural beech forest stands as well as oak-hornbeam forest, coniferous forest complex , source areas, stream valleys (including Steinsiekbach and Bocksiekbach) and a number of forest ponds.
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is to ensure the quality of the habitat for the great mouse- eared bat and other bat species by maintaining and optimizing the structurally rich forests with old wood stocks rich in shrubs and dead wood, flower-rich paths and differently staggered forest stands and forest edges. Further development goals relate to the preservation of the various forest communities represented in the forest, increasing the proportion of deciduous forests and the preservation and optimization of standing water.
