Staroschilowo ( Russian Старожи́лово ) is an urban-type settlement in Ryazan Oblast in Russia with 5088 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 50 km as the crow flies south-southeast of the Ryazan Oblast Administrative Center on the right-hand Oka tributary Istja .

Staroschilowo is the administrative center of the Rajons Staroschilowski and seat of the municipality Staroschilowskoje gorodskoje posselenije. This also includes 25 surrounding villages and hamlets (chutor), five of which have more than 100 inhabitants (as of 2010).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1628; in the second half of the 17th century there were reports of over 100 farms.

On July 12, 1929 Staroshilovo was the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1967 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

About five kilometers north of the village is the station of the same name at kilometer 246 of the railway line Moscow  - Ryazan - Michurinsk  - Tambov  - Saratov, which was opened on this section in 1866 and electrified since 1965 .

A few kilometers northeast of the settlement, beyond the railway line, runs the regional road 61K-006 Ryazan - Ryashsk  - border to Lipetsk Oblast (formerly as R126 further in the direction of Dankow  - Jefremow ), from which the 61K-028 branches off and goes through Staroshilovo to just 25 km southwest of the neighboring district center Pronsk leads.
