The Steinweg 19 is a listed agricultural estate in the town of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The property, registered in the Quedlinburg monument register as a merchant's farm, is located in the historic new town of Quedlinburg on the north side of the Steinweg and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . The house Steinweg 18 , which is also listed, is adjacent to the west and Steinweg 20 to the east .

Architecture and history

The roadside, in the framework construction built house of the Baroque complex dates for an inscription from 1719. Noteworthy is the baroque, from sandstone built portal. It has pilasters decorated with coats of arms . There are also acanthus tendrils . The keystone at the portal is designed as a lion's head. A portal in the style of neoclassicism leads from the passage to a hall. The compartments of the half-timbered facade are provided with ornamental brickwork.

The inside of the building structure has been largely preserved with many details.

In the courtyard there are still two wings on the east side. Only small remnants of the original buildings have been preserved on the west side.

The building served as a post office . The future publisher Otto Meissner was born here in 1819 as the seventh child of a postmaster family. Meissner became known as the publisher of the work Das Kapital , written by Karl Marx .
