The 2018/2019 season of the Swiss Women's Hockey League A was the 30th edition of the top division in Swiss women's ice hockey and at the same time the 33rd Swiss championship. The league started with the same teams as last year. The championship title was won for the seventh time in the club's history by the HC Lugano women's team .
mode
The game mode of SWHL A provides for a preliminary round ( phase 1 ) with 10 games per team and a master round with a further 10 games per team, taking half of the points from the preliminary round. The teams in places 1 to 4 then play play-offs with semi-finals, finals (both in best-of-five mode ) and a game for place 3. The teams in places 5 and 6 determine in a playout round (best-of -Five) the participant in the league relegation between SWHL A and B.
Attendees
Before the start of the season, the HC Lugano Ladies were transferred to their own, independent organization in order to enable a legal and economic separation of the professional and junior game operations. In addition, the season break was marked by numerous player and coach changes as well as resignations by longstanding players. Above all, the ZSC Lions had to compensate for the departure of a total of eleven players and started with a strongly rejuvenated team. During the season, both the new head coach of HC Lugano, Steve Huard , and ZSC coach Georg Taferner were dismissed and replaced by their respective assistants.
