Tokmak (Ukrainian and Russian Токмак ; German rarely Groß-Tokmak ) is a small town in the Zaporizhia Oblast in south-central Ukraine with about 32,000 inhabitants (2016).
It is the administrative center of Tokmak Rajon and is itself directly subordinate to the Oblast . The city is located 98 km southeast of the oblast capital, Zaporizhia .
It was founded under the name "Velykyj Tokmak" (Ukrainian Великий Токмак ) in 1784 and carried the name until 1962. In 1938 it was granted city rights.
