The 20th stage of the Tour de France 2010 on July 25th led over 102.5 km from Longjumeau to Paris on the circuit of the Champs-Élysées . The last part of the day ended with nine laps on the circuit. During these laps, two sprint classifications were carried out. As on the previous day, 170 of the 198 participants registered for the start of the tour started.

Race course

The RadioShack team appeared at the stage in a black jersey with the number 28 to indicate the number of cancer patients in millions. However, this special jersey was not approved by the UCI . At first, the RadioShack drivers only put on their normal team jackets. However, that was not enough, as the start numbers must also be clearly visible. So the team stopped to change jerseys and pin the start numbers. Even Stephane Auge and Thomas Voeckler exchanged briefly their jerseys. Only Lance Armstrong still rode the team jacket. After discussions, he also changed his jersey and had his starting number pinned on, albeit only briefly at first. The other drivers waited with the officials at kilometer zero. Finally, the race started at 2:58 p.m., more than a quarter of an hour late. With Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck as well as a few drivers from the Astana team in the lead, the field set off at a slow pace and some photo shoots began. Armstrong's start number has now also been judged.

After the riders had reached the finish line and the turning point on the Champs-Élysées for the first time , a group of six, consisting of Aljaksandr Kuschynski , Aleksandr Pliuşkin , Christophe Riblon , Rubén Pérez , Maarten Tjallingii and Stéphane Augé broke up. Of the attackers, Kuschynski won the first sprint classification as a soloist after crossing the finish line twice before the field led by Marcus Burghardt caught up with him again. After that, a group of penalties made up of Anthony Roux , Nicki Sørensen , Sandy Casar , Christophe Riblon, Tony Martin , Karsten Kroon , Christian Knees , Rémi Pauriol , Alan Pérez , Danilo Hondo and Aitor Pérez broke up . These drivers were able to pull out a lead of up to 25 seconds. Kroon won the second sprint classification, which was driven out after the fifth finish. The field led by the teams HTC-Columbia and Sky and later also Lampre caught up again afterwards. Knees tried to break away from the group, followed by Kroon and Sørensen. While the eight other drivers were caught up again, the three in the lead were able to briefly increase their lead again before they too were caught up with 5.5 km from the finish. Thor Hushovd put on the sprint, which was again won by Mark Cavendish by a clear margin. Second came Alessandro Petacchi , who was able to defend his green jersey.
