history
The name of the street goes back to a hill with three elevations (English Trimountaine ), of which only Beacon Hill still exists today. Over time, with Cotton Hill and Mt. Whoredom, a large part of the original hill was removed to make way for building land and to fill in the Shawmut Peninsula with the material .
Route
The Tremont Street begins right next to the MBTA -U station Government Center in the same district as a one-way street in a southerly direction as a junction of Cambridge Street and Court Street . It runs along the eastern border to Boston Common past the Tufts Medical Center and turns west after Eliot Norton Park for about 90 m, and at the next intersection immediately leads back to the southwest over the Massachusetts Turnpike .
From the intersection with Berkeley Street , Tremont Street runs in a southwest direction parallel to Huntington Avenue . It crosses Massachusetts Avenue and is shown as Massachusetts Route 28 from the confluence with Columbus Avenue . At the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard she turns to the northwest and finally flows on Brigham Circle on Huntington Avenue .
