Ust-Belaja ( Russian Усть-Белая ) is a village (selo) in the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug ( Russia ) with 856 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is located on the right bank of the Anadyr opposite the confluence of the Belaja (the place name means Belaja mouth ), below the low mountain range Ust-Belskije gory ("Ust-Balaja Mountains") with the mountain Gynyretyk, which comes close to the river .

Ust-Belaja is part of the Anadyrski Rajon and is located 215 km as the crow flies west-northwest of the district and district administrative center of Anadyr . It is the only village in the rural municipality of the same name (selskoje posselenije).

history

The village was founded at the turn of the 20th century by Yukagir Vasili Nikulin, who came from Markowo , further upstream on the Anadyr, and originally from Nizhnekolymsk on the Kolyma . The annual fairs held there soon became of regional importance. From 1930 to 1935 Ust-Balaja was the administrative seat of the Anadyrski rajon.

traffic

There is no fixed road connection to Ust-Belaja. The place can be reached from Anadyr in 1.5 hours by helicopter or during the ice-free time by ship.
