Janrakynnot ( Russian and Chukchi Янракынно́т ) is a village (selo) in the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug ( Russia ) with 338 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The village is located about 475 km as the crow flies east of the administrative center of the Anadyr Autonomous Okrug in the eastern part of the Chukchi Peninsula on the coast of the Bering Sea , on the Senjawin Strait , a strait that is about 10 km wide and the mainland of the offshore island Arakameche separates. It is located on the right (western) side of the mouth of the Maritsch River (also Janrakynnotwaam ), which flows through the Keitschuyn lagoon immediately to the north , and at the northeast end of the Wenetken spit, which is about nine kilometers long .
Janrakynnot belongs to the Providenia district ; It is from the eponymous administrative seat, the settlement Prowidenija , 65 km to the northeast.
history
Janrakynnot was first mentioned in a document in 1828. The name stands in Chukchi for "single solid land" ( янра , janra "single (standing)"; кын , kyn "solid"; нот , not from нутэнут , nutenut "land, earth") and describes the location on a rocky hill in the middle of the surrounding marshland.
Until the formation of the city circle provideniya 2015 Janrakynnot was the seat and only town a rural community of the same name (selskoje posselenije) within the Rajons Prowidenski.
traffic
Janrakynnot is not connected to the Russian road network. During the ice-free time, the place can only be reached by water or by helicopter , otherwise also via a winter slope from Prowidenija, which partly runs over the frozen strait.
