Anjuisk ( Russian Аню́йск ) is a village (selo) in the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug ( Russia ) with 434 inhabitants (as of January 2016). Anjuisk belongs to the Bilibinski rajon .

location

Anjuisk is located on the Little Anjui , which gave the place its name. The distance to Bilibino is 272 km, to Anadyr , the capital of the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug, about 800 km.

history

The village was established in 1930 as a result of the collectivization of nomadic shepherds, who settled on the site of the present location and formed two kolkhozes , which were called "First May" ( Russian Первое мая ) and "New Life" ( Russian Новая жизнь ). As a result, the place grew and a school and a kindergarten were built. In 1960 the two kolkhozes were merged into one kolkhoz named "Anjuiski". On March 15, 1960 Anjuisk Ostrownoje replaced as the seat of the Rajon Vostochnoi Tundry ("Rajon of the Eastern Tundra"). However, Anjuisk did not keep the status of Rajonshauptort long. On August 2, 1961, the seat of the Rajon was moved to the rapidly growing Bilibino , later the name was changed to Bilibinski rajon after the main town . A milk-producing company was established in Anjuisk in the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

The main local industries are reindeer herding, fishing, agriculture and hunting. In Anjuisk there is a school, an infirmary, a cultural center, a library and a small hotel. There are roads within the village, but Anjuisk is not connected to the Russian road network via paved roads. The place is connected to the urban-type Chersky settlement , the capital of Nizhnekolymsky ulus in Yakutia , via a dirt road. Other villages can be reached by water via the Little Anjui, which flows into the Kolyma .

population

In the 2010 census, the place had 480 inhabitants, in January 2012 472 inhabitants. By January 2016 the population had decreased to 434 inhabitants. Most of them are Evens , otherwise mainly Russians and Ukrainians . Despite the situation in the Chukchi district, Chukchi only make up a very small proportion of around 3%.

climate

Anjuisk is located in the subpolar , boreal climatic zone .
