Vasif Durarbəyli (at the World Chess Federation FIDE Vasif Durarbeyli ; born February 24, 1992 in Sumqayıt ) is an Azerbaijani chess player .

Life

Vasif Durarbəyli was a student at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport in Baku and is now studying at Webster University in St. Louis , Missouri .

Youth successes

At the 2006 U16 Chess Olympiad in Ağrı , he played on the first board for Azerbaijan. In the same year he won the U14 World Youth Championship in Batumi and was second behind Péter Prohászka at the U14 European Youth Championship in Herceg Novi . In 2010 he won the U18 European Championship in Batumi.

General successes

For the Azerbaijani national team he took part in the 2006 Chess Olympiad in Turin on the second reserve board and came there to three missions. In the same year he was third in the C group of the Aeroflot Open in Moscow . In the following year he was able to win the B group at the Aeroflot Open.

He plays club chess in Azerbaijan and Turkey, there for Antalya Callispor .

He became international champion (IM) in September 2007. He achieved the standards for this at the Azerbaijani individual championship in 2006 in Baku with overachievement (with victories against, among others, Fərid Abbasov and Eltac Səfərli ) as well as when he won the B group of the Aeroflot Open 2007 and the 2007 European Championship in Dresden (also the norm for obtaining the Grandmaster title (GM) with victories against Maxim Sorokin , David Howell , Florian Jenni and Alexander Naumann, among others ). In May 2008 he had all the norms for obtaining the Grandmaster title. This was applied for in March 2009, but he had to wait for the title until July 2010, as it was only then that he exceeded the threshold of 2500 Elo points. He obtained the other standards at the 17th International Festival in Abu Dhabi in August 2007 and at the 3rd President's Cup in Baku.

In 2013 Durarbəyli took part in the World Chess Cup , but failed in the first round to Anton Korobov , and was placed on the fourth board of the Azerbaijani team at the World Team Championship in Antalya .
