Vayres ( Occitan Vairas ) is a French commune of 750 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
geography
The municipality is located around 35 kilometers west-southwest of Limoges and already borders on the neighboring Charente department . Neighboring communities are:
- Rochechouart in the north,
- Saint-Auvent in the northeast,
- Oradour-sur-Vayres in the southeast,
- Saint-Bazile in the south,
- Chéronnac to the west as well
- Videix and Pressignac (Dép. Charente) in the north-west.
The municipality belongs to the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park and is drained north by the river Vayres of the same name .
geology
Vayres lies on the edge of the approximately 200 million year old meteorite impact crater Rochechouart-Chassenon . Rare rock finds still bear witness to this today.
