Viktor Felix Sprößer , von Sprößer since 1905 (born January 15, 1853 in Heilbronn , † December 26, 1925 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg officer , most recently a lieutenant general in the First World War .

Life

family

Sprößer was the son of a merchant. He married Amalie, née Pfann (born November 2, 1858).

Military career

Sprößer joined the 7th Infantry Regiment of the Württemberg Army on October 1, 1871 as a one-year volunteer after graduating from the Realgymnasium in Stuttgart . Promoted to secondary lieutenant on May 5, 1873 with a patent from March 3, 1873 , he graduated from the War Academy in Berlin for three years from October 1, 1879 . In the meantime Sprößer had been promoted to Prime Lieutenant on April 14, 1879 while simultaneously being transferred to the infantry regiment “Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden” (8th Württembergisches) No. 126 . Here he served as a regimental adjutant from November 1882 to February 1885. Promoted to captain at the end of April 1887 , Sprößer was appointed company commander in 7th Infantry Regiment No. 125 a month later . After almost six years of service, he was transferred to the infantry regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm, King of Prussia" (2nd Württembergisches) No. 120 . As a major , Spößer was assigned to the Prussian Army in March 1897 . There it was used with the 3rd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 66 , from September 10, 1898 as a battalion commander. On 22 March 1903 a commander of the Military Academy Glogau appointed Sproesser was in that position on April 18, 1903 Lt. Col. transported and on 18 August 1903 under relieved of his command in Prussia in the Infantry Regiment "Old-Württemberg" (3 . Württembergisches) No. 121 moved. On April 24, 1904, when he retired , he was put up for disposal . He received the regular post of inactive staff officer at the General Command of the XIII. Army Corps .

In recognition of his services, King Wilhelm II awarded him the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown on February 25, 1905 . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility and he was allowed to name himself after the entry in the nobility register of Sprößer .

On April 10, 1906 Sproesser received the character as a colonel . With effect from October 18, 1907, he was appointed commander of the Landwehr district of Stuttgart while simultaneously being awarded the patent for this rank . Sprößer, who on February 25, 1911, had received the Commander's Second Class of the Order of Frederick, held this position until October 18, 1912. On this date he received the character of Major General .

At the beginning of the First World War Sprößer was reactivated as major general zD and appointed commander of the Württemberg Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 121 . After it was mobile on August 26, 1914, it came to the Western Front . In January 1915 Sprößer gave up the regiment and became the commander of a brigade named after him , from which the 82nd Landwehr Infantry Brigade was budgeted with the formation of the 12th Landwehr Division in April. This brigade Sproesser lay in the trench warfare in the Upper Rhine, took here, among others in the fighting around the Hartmannswillerkopf part and was for his performances on May 12, 1915, the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Merit encumbered. In addition, he received on October 5, 1916 the Commander of the Order of the Württemberg Crown with Swords. On May 25, 1917, Sprösser's brigade joined the 255th Division . Here he took part in the trench warfare in Lorraine and in the Vosges . In September 1918 the brigade was deployed at St. Mihiel and then went into trench warfare on the Woëvre plain and west of the Moselle .

After the end of the war and demobilization , Sprößer was given the status of lieutenant general and retired.

His military estate is now in the Central State Archive Stuttgart .
