history

The place was first mentioned by name in 1283 as "Volkalsdorf". The defining word of the place name is the personal name Volkolt. A person of this name can be assumed to be the founder of the settlement. Due to the favorable location and the good soil quality, the place is one of the original settlements in the Rezat area, which were established in the 8th century.

In 1405, Friedrich von Heideck sold the Gumbertusstift an estate in Volkersdorf. The remaining goods came to the imperial city of Nuremberg in 1406 .

In the Salbuch of the Nuremberg Nursing Office Lichtenau from 1515 15 properties and a shepherd's house are given for Volkersdorf: 10 subjects were subordinate to the imperial city of Nuremberg, plus 3 large handicrafts . 2 subjects were subordinate to the Schallerin zu Ansbach.

As a result of the Thirty Years' War , the place was already in ashes in 1633. Only two households were spared.

In the official description of the Lichtenau nursing office from 1748, the place is part of the main team of Saxony. There were 17 subject families, of which 15 were from Nuremberg.

At the end of the 18th century there were 20 properties in Volkersdorf. The high court and the village and community rulership was exercised by the Lichtenau nursing office in the imperial city of Nuremberg. The landlords were the imperial city of Nuremberg (Landesalmosenamt: 4 half farms, 3 estates, 2 farms; Lichtenau nursing office: 1 half farm, 2 farms, 2 half farms, 1 cone inn; St. Klara monastery office : 2 half courtyards; Spital and Katharinenklosteramt : 1 half courtyard) and the Brandenburg-Ansbach Hofkastenamt Ansbach (2 estates). In addition to the property, there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, breaker's house ).

In 1806 Volkersdorf came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict, Volkersdorf was assigned to the tax district of Saxony, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Saxony, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818), Volkersdorf with Rutzendorf and Rutzenmühle broke away from Saxony and formed a rural community. It was subject to the Heilsbronn Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Windsbach Rent Office in the financial administration . At times the Lichtenau cellars were part of the community. From 1862 to 1879 Volkersdorf was administered by the Heilsbronn district office, since 1880 by the Ansbach district office (renamed the Ansbach district in 1938 ) and the Heilsbronn rent office (1920–1929: Heilsbronn tax office , from 1929: Ansbach tax office ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Heilsbronn until 1879, 1880–1956 district court Heilsbronn , since 1956 district court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 5.429 km².

On April 1, 1971, before the regional reform , Volkersdorf was incorporated into Saxony.
