Landscape around Würm

Würm was first mentioned in a document on the occasion of the consecration of a chapel in Prummer by Bishop Werner von Münster in 1137. In 1144, Archbishop Arnold I (1137–1151) from Cologne transferred the "Worma" donation to the monasteries of Liesborn and Überwasser near Münster . In 1240 von Randerode became Vogt of Würm and Prummer; thus Würm came under the rule of the Randerathers until 1384. Then Würm belongs to the Duchy of Jülich. The Duke of Jülich was the collator of the church in Würm. During the Middle Ages, Würm was a long person and was provided by a vicarius perpetuus (paid pastor's representative). In 1559 the personat at the parish church in Würm ceased. Pastor Leonard Lonsis was rector of the parish church in Würm. With the establishment of the 1st diocese of Aachen, Himmerich was separated from Würm and beaten to Randerath. Since 1742 there was a vicarie in Würm .

During the French occupation by Napoleon I from 1794 to 1814, also known as the French era , Würm became the mayor's office ( Mairie ) for the surrounding villages of Beeck, Honsdorf, Leiffarth, Müllendorf, Süggerath and Wurm. In 1934 the mayor's office of Würm was merged with Immendorf to form the Immendorf-Würm office. (A office consists of several municipalities and has a common administration.) The office consisted of the communities Immendorf, Puffendorf, Setterich, Würm, Beeck and Süggerath. The seat of the office was Immendorf. There was a branch in Würm.

From the oldest church, the choir and today's altar sacristy are still preserved. The late Gothic three-nave church from the 15th century was destroyed by German troops on November 18, 1944. Before the destruction, the late Gothic church was considered a building of the 14th or 15th century. The explosion made even older components visible. The archaeologist PA Tholen found wooden foundations of what was probably the first church on site from the 8th or 9th century. In the east wall, a round arch made of Brohler tuff was exposed. The year 1251 is carved into it. Since March 29, 1953, services have been celebrated in the church again. The old barracks, which had previously served as an emergency church - with black ashes as the floor - was demolished. The wood of this emergency church was sold as firewood for 600 marks. The parish includes the places of the Selfkant district that were most destroyed in the Second World War: Beeck, Flahstraß, Honsdorf, Leiffarth, Müllendorf and Würm. The church is included in the list of monuments of the city of Geilenkirchen.

In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen, the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Gereon Würm was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Bonifatius Geilenkirchen.

Incorporation

Until the municipal reform that was official Immendorf-Würm as local community for Würm, Immendorf, Puffendorf , Süggerath , Beeck and Setterich charge (until 1962). When the Aachen law came into force , the Immendorf-Würm office was dissolved on January 1, 1972, and its localities without Puffendorf were incorporated into Geilenkirchen. The administration is now carried out by the city of Geilenkirchen according to the municipal code of North Rhine-Westphalia.
