The Weißach is a river in the Miesbach district in Upper Bavaria . The Weißach drains the entire Kreuther valley and flows into the Tegernsee .

course

The Weißach has its origin in the Blauberge north of the Achensee from several dozen springs of the Großweißach , the highest spring of which is at 1347  m (near the dilapidated Hoch-Alm, north of the Gerstenrieder Kopf ). The river is only called Weißach from Glashütte in the community of Kreuth . From there to the confluence with the Tegernsee, the Weißach is 18 km long. To Rottach-Egern the Weißach flows along the B 307 and from Wildbad Kreuth largely dikes.

The Weißach runs in the municipality of Kreuth. From the Kreuther district of Enterbach or the Rottach-Egerner district of Trinis , the right bank of the river to the mouth of the Weißach forms the boundary between the two communities.

Tributaries

The Weißach has a large number of larger and smaller tributaries. The most important are

  • the Albertsbach (mouth near Trifthütte or Waldhäusl Winterstube at 840  m above sea level ) - right tributary
  • the Schwarzenbach (mouth at 830  m above sea level ), which drains the Schwarzentenn - left tributary
  • the Klammbach (drains the Königs-Alm area, mouth at 814  m above sea level ) - right tributary
  • the Hofbauernweißach (drains the north side of the Blauberge , mouth at 796  m above sea level ) - right tributary
  • the Sagenbach (flows through the Lange Au , mouth at 790  m above sea level ) - right tributary

The smaller tributaries include the streams from Reitbach (r), Schliffbach (l), Kohlarbeitgraben (l), Bartgraben (r), Alpelgraben and Rotmarterlgraben (l), Jägerleitengraben (l), Böckleitengraben (l), Laimbach (l), Grüneckgraben (l), Plattiger Graben (l), Gernberggraben (r), Rötzleitengraben (l), Staudenbach (l), Riedlerner Graben (r), Mühlauer Graben (r), Pletscherergraben (l), Lahngraben (r), Gschwendgraben ( l), Klafferbach (r), Wiesengraben (l), Brunntalgraben (r) and Grabenbächl (l). In addition, the Weißach has other small tributaries. *

* Note: tributaries along the course of the river from top to bottom. r = right inflow, l = left inflow. List is not exhaustive.

River barriers

The Weißach was largely expanded at the beginning of the 20th century for the wood drift and flood protection . The river was diked and straightened over large parts . To prevent erosion caused by the increased flow velocity , wooden or concrete sleepers were erected at regular intervals. Between 1985 and 1995, these thresholds were replaced in the middle course of the river by other hydraulic engineering measures such as the use of armourstones . In the following years, in the lower course from the so-called Eiserner Steg, the river bed was significantly deepened for flood protection .

To the increased by the obstruction sediment compensate transport and a silting of the ring the lake to avoid the Weissach is in the Tegernsee regularly at the mouth of gravel dredged.

At the level of the so-called Eiserner Steg there is a weir which damms the water of the Weißach and feeds it to a canal on the left side of the river, the so-called Mühlbach. The Weißachmühle on the canal has been used by the Tegernsee electricity company as a hydroelectric power station to generate electricity since 1956 . Below the weir there is very little water in the Weißach for several months of the year due to the drainage into the canal. The canal is not led back to the Weißach, but flows southwest of the Weißach estuary into the Ringsee.

history

The Weißach served as a transport route for spruce wood , which was mainly needed to fire the Rosenheim salt works . The wood was "drifted" to its destination via the Weißach, Tegernsee and Mangfall rivers .
