action

The Pentecost family's anticipation of the upcoming summer vacation is clouded when they receive news that May Pentecost's brother is in hospital in Bombay . Together with her husband and writer Jocelyn, May decides to temporarily take in her brother's three underage children, David, Jenny and Emma. Shortly after arriving at the country house, the newcomers cause a stir. While 14-year-old Jenny and her uncle are flirting, David's aloof behavior is a mystery. In addition, Pentecost's spirited son Gaylord is constantly annoyed by younger, scratchy Emma.

Bert Foggerty, who at the time attacked Gaylord with a knife and seriously injured him, has since been released from prison. Despite pretending to have improved, the Pentecosts remain suspicious. They forbid their son to interact with Bert and his brother Willy, who was left behind. One night a small hay barn belonging to the Pentecosts burns on the access road to the property, but is extinguished by the fire brigade . Shortly afterwards, David, who claims to have discovered the fire, returns from his late evening walk in scorched clothes. In the meantime, sticks of dynamite are being stolen from a nearby quarry. Willy happens to find some of the stolen goods and unsuspectingly hands over the "magic sticks" to Gaylord, who disregards his parents' ban on contact. When David learns about this, he takes the explosives.

While Peter and his pregnant wife Becky visit to look after Gaylord's newborn sister Amanda and to keep the grandfather at home company, the rest of the family goes on a beach vacation. This comes to an abrupt end after a phone call. Concerned for the well-being of her little daughter, May drives home with David. Since Emma cannot be found at first, Jocelyn, Jenny and Gaylord remain waiting. Jocelyn finally decides to stay in a hotel to catch the train the next morning. After Gaylord and Emma went to bed, Jocelyn initially refused Jenny's request for an evening together in a beach chair, but in turn offered to drink a glass of wine together. Afterwards, the short good night saying in the hotel hallway develops into an intense kiss, which is ended when Emma suddenly appears.

The following night another fire breaks out in the immediate vicinity of the country house. David is caught again on his return from one of his trips and is then confronted by May. In front of the fully assembled relatives, he later claims to have removed the dynamite sticks from Gaylord for safety reasons. At the same time, the family is faced with another endurance test: One of Emma's numerous indiscretions and Jenny's confrontation with May about her love for Jocelyn endanger the marital peace. May brings the unhappy teenager back down to earth and asks her confessed husband about the kissing scene at the hotel. A day trip together to the city should contribute to reconciliation with her husband.

Willy, wanted by the police, has been missing for some time. David finds out that Gaylord is hiding him out of pity. Under pressure, Willy reports a planned revenge attack on Jocelyn and May, which Bert wants to carry out on a bridge with the help of the remaining dynamite. David manages to arrive at the crime scene on time and engage Bert in a fight. When the notified police arrive, they run away. The Pentecosts vehicle crosses the bridge without being damaged. Celebrated as a savior, David and his two sisters leave the next day.

In addition, the name of the Wermelskirchen district was on the license plate of the family car. The interior shots were shot in the CCC studios in Berlin-Spandau .

Reviews

"An emphatically family-friendly, relaxing conversation with an eye for exhilarating comedy , but without any claim to depth."

“More successful than its predecessor in terms of direction and acting, as well as in terms of content, the harmless film portrays little problems that arise from a vacation visit without the family idyll being obtrusive. Good entertainment for all ages. "
