Žiga Pance (born January 1, 1989 in Ljubljana , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with the Dornbirner EC . His brother Erik is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Žiga Pance began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Slovenian ice hockey league in the 2005/06 season . At the same time he played for Olimpija in the Interliga . The following season, the winger moved to the Oshawa Generals , who had drawn him in the CHL Import Draft in the first round in a total of 24th place, in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . After starting the 2007/08 season at Oshawa, he returned to Ljubljana, where he became Slovenian champion in 2012 and 2013 . In the following season , the national player made his debut in the Austrian ice hockey league . He scored four goals in 50 games and gave four assists. In the 2009/10 season , the left-handed shooter was able to increase to 34 scorer points, including 14 goals, in 54 games and was also second in the election for the EBEL YoungStar this season . He continued this positive trend in the 2010/11 season , in which he was team captain at Olimpija, when he scored 41 scorer points in a total of 57 games, including 23 goals, and again finished second in the election for the EBEL YoungStar of the season .

In 2013 he moved within the league to HC Bozen , with whom he was able to win the Austrian ice hockey league straight away. He scored the decisive goal at 3-2 after extra time in the fifth final game against EC Red Bull Salzburg and thus secured the title for his team. For the 2015/16 season he signed a contract with EC Villacher SV . With the Villachern he reached the semi-finals, was the team's top scorer and scored the most assists of the club. Despite these successes, he left the team after only one year and moved within Carinthia to EC Klagenfurt AC .

International

For Slovenia , Pance took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in Division I in 2006 and the U20 World Junior Championships in Division I in 2007 and 2009 .

In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2009 , 2010 , 2012 , 2014 and 2016 and in the World Championships in the Top Division in 2011 , 2013 and 2015 . He also took part in the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 and also in the Winter Games themselves, in which the Slovenes took a surprising seventh place. He also played for his home country in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 , which was successful for Slovenia .

Inline hockey

In addition to his career as an ice hockey player, Pance plays inline hockey in the summer months and represented Slovenia at the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship 2006 and IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship 2008 . At the national level he plays for the team ŠD CityPark Strele.
