The A2002 was a Class I road that in 1922 circled the castle in Reigate to the northwest, so that the A25 and A217 connected and gave west-north traffic the opportunity to bypass the Reigate tunnel. When this tunnel was closed to motorized traffic, the A2002 became part of a one-way ring road, where it became part of the A25.
