action

When Celine Naville ( Cameron Diaz ) is about to be forced by her rich father to finally work, the recently fired cleaning man Robert Lewis ( Ewan McGregor ) bursts in and tries to get his old job back at gunpoint.

In the ensuing mess, Robert takes Celine hostage and escapes with her. She soon takes the initiative and together they blackmail her father with her as a supposed kidnapping victim.

At the same time, the angels O'Reilly and Jackson, who pretend to be killers, try to arouse feelings between Robert and Celine. When Jackson pretends that he is about to kill Robert after a failed cash delivery, Celine overpowers him.

When the two of them robbed a bank, Robert saves Celine from a security guard and is shot himself. When he watches her with her ex-lover, with whom they have found shelter, the two split up in an argument.

For the time being he finds shelter alone as a cleaner in a bar. Jackson writes a love letter in Roberts' handwriting with a poem that Celine thinks is beautiful. She comes into the bar; Robert honestly says he never wrote the poem. Celine runs away humiliated, the bar owner is surprised that Robert lets her go.

The desperate angels kidnap Celine and hold her captive. Robert comes to free her. When he and Jackson fight each other, Francis Naville also appears and his helper shoots the two angels.

When Robert is also about to be shot, Celine saves him with a shot through his heart, as he foresaw in a dream. A miracle is approved in heaven and Robert lives on - together with Celine.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that Rather Live Unusually is Unusually - which is part of the problem. The film focuses so much on being quirky that it falls into clichés. It offers a number of the parodies that are sometimes amusing, sometimes clever, and sometimes boring. There is no chemistry between the main actors. The critic praised Holly Hunter and Delroy Lindo, who as a couple have more chemistry and would deliberately play excessively. The other supporting roles are "interesting" cast; Berardinelli mentioned Ian Holm, Stanley Tucci, Tony Shalhoub, Maury Chaykin, and Dan Hedaya, who portrayed the Archangel Gabriel as a grumpy representative of middle management.

The lexicon of international films wrote: “Allegedly a passionate love story, the staging is lost in smug actionism that aims more at effects than at content. The film reveals its potential substances because it is too tailored to the zeitgeist. "

The magazine TV Spielfilm 2/1998 described the film as "brightly colored" and "raven black", TV Today 2/1998 as "cheeky" and "candy-colored", and Cinema 2/1998 as "original but chaotic".
