Alwin Bruno Leonhard von Loos (born October 28, 1824 in Stettin , † June 20, 1883 in Chiasso ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of Mainz .

Life

origin

The Loos family comes from the Swedish and was raised to the Swedish nobility on August 27, 1711 with the Swedish major general and commander of Hamburg Cornelius Loos (1686–1738) . His parents were the engineer lieutenant colonel Friedrich von Loos (1772-1836) and his wife Eugenie, née von Liebermann (1788-1844). His brother Hugo (1820–1883) became a Prussian lieutenant general, his brother Woldemar (1814–1852) died as a Prussian captain and military attaché in Paris .

Military career

After visiting the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin , Loos joined the Guard Reserve Infantry (Landwehr) regiment of the Prussian Army on August 9, 1842 as a porter ensign . After he was promoted to captain in this capacity in mid-September 1857 , he was commanded to serve with Prince Friedrich Wilhelm from June 25, 1859 . With the appointment as company commander Loos resigned on January 24, 1860 in the troop service. In January / February 1861 he accompanied the cavalry general from Waldersee to Stockholm and in October of that year he was commanded by Wilhelm I to Koenigsberg for the coronation celebrations . During the war against Austria , Loos was from May 14th to September 17th, 1866 commander of the 1st Battalion in the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment in Görlitz and took part in the Battle of Königgrätz . After the war, on November 1, 1866, he was transferred back to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot and was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the middle of the month. From January 25 to July 5, 1867, he took part as an observer in the Swedish maneuvers near Stockholm. On January 13, 1868 Loos was aggregated into his regiment and sent to Stuttgart as a military officer . During the war against France in 1870/71 he was assigned to the Württemberg field division as a lieutenant colonel , took part in the capture of the Lichtenberg fortress , the battles near Wörth , Sedan and Villiers, and the siege of Paris . King Karl paid tribute to him by awarding him the Commander of the Order of the Württemberg Crown with Swords and the Knight's Cross of his Order of Military Merit . He also received the Iron Cross and the Military Merit Cross, Second Class.

He died of malaria on June 20, 1883 on a trip to Chiasso and was buried on November 19, 1883 in the Berlin Invalidenfriedhof .

Loos married Maria von Reuss (1829-1899), a daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Ludwig von Reuss, on May 3, 1851 in Berlin. She was buried on April 24, 1899 in the Invalidenfriedhof.
