Andrij Pawlowytsch Michnow ( Ukrainian Андрій Павлович Міхнов , Russian Андрей Павлович Михнов Andrei Pavlovich Michnow * 26. November 1983 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian hockey player , who has been in 2018 when GKS Tychy in Polish Ekstraliga under contract. His brother Alexei is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Club
Andrij Michnow began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 2001 to 2003 for the Sudbury Wolves , Kingston Frontenacs and Toronto St. Michael's Majors . During this period he was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the second round as a total of 62nd player by the St. Louis Blues , for which he however never played. Instead, he returned to Europe, where he signed a contract with HK Lada Tolyatti in Russia in 2003 . For Lada Tolyatti he made his debut in the Superliga during the 2004/05 season , after he had been active for Lada's second team in the third-rate Pervaya League last year . The 2004/05 season ended the Ukrainian at Lada's Super League rivals Salawat Yulayev Ufa , but returned to Lada Tolyatti after the end of the season and scored four goals in 42 games in the 2005/06 season and provided five assists. That year he also won the IIHF Continental Cup with Lada .
From 2006 to 2008 Michnow played for one year each for Ak Bars Kazan and HK Traktor Chelyabinsk in the super league. For the 2008/09 season , the Ukrainian international signed again with HK Lada Tolyatti, who had previously been accepted into the newly founded Continental Hockey League . After Tolyatti had to withdraw from the KHL in 2010 due to financial problems, he moved to Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk within the league . Following the 2010/11 season , his contract was not renewed. He then went to the second team of HK Donbass Donetsk , with whom he was in the Professional Hockey League of Ukrainian champions . The following year he moved to league rivals HK Berkut . Although he won the main round of the 2012/13 season with the capital city team , the club was excluded from the game for financial reasons before the start of the playoffs. Following this season he moved to the Belarusian extra league to Metallurg Schlobin . In the 2015/16 season he achieved the second best plus / minus balance in the league after Viktor Andruschtschenko from master HK Shakhtsor Salihorsk . From 2015 to 2018 he played for its league competitor HK Junost Minsk , with whom he became Belarusian champion in 2016 and won the IIHF Continental Cup in 2018 . He then moved to GKS Tychy in the Polish Ekstraliga .
International
For Ukraine , Michnow took part in the World Cup of the Top Division 2006 , as well as the World Cup of Division I in 2009 , when he was voted the best striker of the tournament, in 2010 , when he, together with the Austrian Oliver Setzinger, was the best assist provider and after his compatriot Kostjantyn Kasjantschuk was the second best scorer of the tournament in 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , when he was voted best player of his team, in 2016 and 2018 . He was also on the ice for the Ukrainian team in the Olympic qualifications for the Games in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 , in which the Ukrainians failed in the tournaments in the second qualifying round. Even with the qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang Michnow played for Ukraine. Here, however, he and his team were eliminated in the first qualifying round in February 2016 due to a 2-1 defeat against Japan .
