Anna Karolína Schmiedlová (born September 13, 1994 in Košice ) is a Slovak tennis player .
Career
Anna Karolína Schmiedlová became a member of the Mladosť Košice tennis club at the age of seven . Father Juraj played ice hockey for VSŽ Košice , mother Martina was a Czechoslovak water ski champion . Her sister Kristína (* 1997) was ranked 8th in the ITF junior rankings at the age of 16 .
Schmiedlová won her first ITF tournament in Yerevan in 2011 and two ITF tournaments in Antalya in April 2012 . In May 2012 she won the ITF tournament in Bad Saarow . In the same month she won the ITF tournament in Brescia as a qualifier ; including the final, she managed a series of 22 wins there. At the French Open , she was then in the junior finals. In November 2012, she won the Netanya ITF tournament . In April 2012 she played in Marbella against Spain for the first time for the Slovak Fed Cup team ; she has now played ten games (7 wins) for her country.
At the French Open 2013 Schmiedlová defeated Yanina Wickmayer after qualifying in the first round . At the US Open , after beating Stefanie Vögele, she was again in the second round of a Grand Slam tournament .
Schmiedlová prevailed against Tímea Babos in the first round of the Australian Open in 2014 before she was eliminated by Garbiñe Muguruza . At the ITF tournament in Osprey , she defeated Lourdes Domínguez Lino in three sets in the semifinals and Marina Eraković 6: 2 and 6: 3 in the final . In May she secured her ninth ITF title at the $ 75,000 tournament in Trnava . At the French Open , she defeated Zheng Jie and in round two Venus Williams , which she moved into the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
Schmiedlová also reached the second round at the 2015 Australian Open. In February 2015, she was in Rio de Janeiro for the first time in the final of a WTA tournament, which she lost to Sara Errani . She won her second final against Camila Giorgi in Katowitz in April 2015 . In her third WTA final in Bucharest in July 2015 , she was able to defeat Errani and celebrate her second WTA title. At the WTA tournament in Cincinnati , she defeated Agnieszka Radwańska , Irina-Camelia Begu and Varvara Lepchenko , so that she was able to compete as a seeded player at the US Open for the first time in a Grand Slam tournament; she reached the third round.
In December 2016 she hired Michal Mertiňák , a former Slovak tennis player, as a coach.
