Arrondissement de Simmern

The Arrondissement de Simmern (German: Arrondissement Simmern , also district of Simmern ) was one of three administrative units in the Rhine-Moselle department . The district was in the years 1798 to 1814 of the French Republic (1798-1804) and the French Empire (1804-1814).

Sub-prefect (French sous-préfet ) was Ludwig Johann Christoph von Closen, knight of the Legion of Honor .

As a result of the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna , the area came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 , became part of the Koblenz administrative district in 1816 and became part of the Rhine Province in 1822 . The area has belonged to Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

Administrative division

The arrondissement was divided into ten cantons , 33 mairies and 246 municipalities , which in 1812 had a total of 88,405 inhabitants.

Bacharach Canton
  • Mairie Bacharach with four parishes and 3,338 inhabitants; Mayor: Philippe-George Kellermann (1808, 1812), Frédéric Hildebrandt (1813)
  • Mairie Niederheimbach with three parishes and 1,714 inhabitants; Mayor: Fischer (1808), vacant (1812), Nicolas May (1813)
  • Mairie Oberwesel with a municipality and 2,247 inhabitants; Mayor: Balbiano (1808), Chardon (1812), Jean-Phippe Görtz (1813)
  • Mairie Wiebelsheim with six parishes and 1,584 inhabitants; Mayor: Jean-Pierre Hartel
Canton of Kastellaun
  • Mairie Gödenroth with 16 communities and 3,443 inhabitants; Mayor: Frédéric-David Storck
  • Mairie Kastellaun ( Castellaun ) with 14 parishes and 3,601 inhabitants; Mayor: Pierre-Joseph Hagemann
Canton Kirchberg
  • Mairie Dill with seven parishes and 1,368 inhabitants; Mayor: François-Antonine Sauer
  • Mairie Gemünden with nine parishes and 1,997 inhabitants; Mayor: HJ Koch (1808, 1812), Philippe-George Kellermann (1813); one of the ten municipalities belongs to the canton of Kirn
  • Mairie Kirchberg with five parishes and 1,711 inhabitants; Mayor: Karl F. Pfender (1808, 1812), Pierre Koch (1813)
  • Mairie Niederkostenz ( Niedercostenz ) with eight municipalities and 1,796 inhabitants; Mayor: Werner Josef Jung (1808), Jean-Pierre Mettetal
  • Mairie Sohren with ten parishes and 2,973 inhabitants; Mayor: Kaiserswerth (1808, 1812), George Mohr (1813)
Canton of Kirn
  • Mairie Kirn with twelve parishes and 3,362 inhabitants; Mayor: Aloyse Cadenbach
  • The canton of Kirn also includes five municipalities that were otherwise assigned to the Mairie Monzingen and one municipality from the Mairie Gemünden
Canton of Kreuznach
  • Mairie Hüffelsheim with six parishes and 2,262 inhabitants; Mayor: Baum (1808), Jaques Bettinger (1813)
  • Mairie Kreuznach ( Creuznach ) with a municipality and 5,975 inhabitants; Mayor: KJ Burret
  • Mairie Langenlonsheim with five parishes and 3,327 inhabitants; Mayor: George Kohlmann
  • Mairie Mandel with six parishes and 2,122 inhabitants; Mayor: Charles-Frédéric Minola

Stromberg canton
