action

Intro

The action initially takes place in the present, with a new and unknown assassin adept from the first-person perspective. He is commissioned by the Assassin Brotherhood to log into the Helix memories of the two twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye in order to find the whereabouts of an Eden relic, which is said to be hidden in London. Abstergo is also in the process of searching for the Eden relic. Meanwhile, Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings have infiltrated an Abstergo facility and are spying on a secret Templar meeting.

In 1868 the assassin Henry Green - born Jayadeep Mir, the son of the Indian assassin, Arbaaz Mir - wrote to the Assassin Brotherhood asking for help in the fight against the Templars in London. Green explains that the Brotherhood in London is on the verge of disintegration and that the Templar Grand Master, Crawford Starrick, is taking control of the city. He controls London's industry as well as organized crime . Starrick plans to take control of Britain and the British Empire with the wealth and political influence he has acquired .

Outside London, the two Frye twins (Jacob and Evie) begin their bloody work as assassins. Jacob kills a corrupt factory manager named Rupert Ferris. Meanwhile, Evie infiltrates a laboratory owned by a man named David Brewster and Templar occultist Lucy Thorne. Evie murders David Brewster, who tells her in his agony that Grandmaster Starrick is looking for a second piece of Eden that would make him invincible. After successfully completing their mission, the Assassin Twins decide to disregard the orders of their brotherhood to travel to London and stop Starrick's expansion plans.

In the present day, Rebecca and Shaun are spying on a meeting between Templar leaders Isabelle Ardant and Álvaro Gramática. The two try to catch Isabelle. However, the latter can fend off their attack in good time. At the same time, the leader of the Sigma team, Otso Berg (see Assassin's Creed Rogue ), and Violet da Costa arrive and can arrest Rebecca and Shaun. When the team leader of the assassin operations, Bishop, detonates explosives as a diversionary maneuver, Rebecca and Shaun manage to escape from the hands of the Templars.

Back in the Helix memory, the Frye twins arrive in London and meet with the writer of the cry for help from London, Henry Green. He introduces himself as an acquaintance of her father. Jacob and Evie have different plans on how to free London from the hands of the Templars; Jacob suggests taking up the fight with the Templars straight away, while Evie wants to continue the search for the missing Eden relic. Both agree to free the various districts of London from the influence of the Templars. They want to achieve this by defeating the Templar-controlled criminal gangs as well as sabotaging their companies and murdering high-ranking Templar commanders. The twins get to know their future allies Clara O'Dea, Ned Wynert and Sergeant Abberline and with their help and that of the Rooks - a gang that was founded during the game - free the London borough of Whitechapel . In a street battle, Jacob captures a train that the rooks will use as the headquarters of their operations.

Jacob decides to first investigate the mysterious and addicting "syrup" that Starrick is selling across London, slowly poisoning the population. He meets Charles Darwin , who is also investigating the source of the syrup. Together they destroy the factory in which the syrup is produced and interrogate the owner Richard Owen. Owen admits that a doctor named John Elliotson commissioned the production of the syrup. Jacob and Darwin go to Lambeth Asylum, where Jacob murders Elliotson. Next, Jacob decides to support entrepreneur Pearl Attaway, who runs a tram business and is a competitor to Starrick in the transportation business. He sabotages Starrick's tram company and murders the boss, Malcolm Milner. However, Milner warns Jacob in agony that Starrick and Pearl Attaway are cousins and that Attaway is also a Templar. Jakob then decides to murder Attaway on her train.

A little later Jacob learns about the machinations of the Templar banker Philip Twopennys. He wants to steal the gold reserves from the Bank of England in order to destabilize the British pound and put the population in turmoil. With the help of his ally Sergeant Abberline, Jacob breaks into the Bank of England and murders Twopenny. Jacob then goes to the British Parliament to thwart a proposed Templar plot to assassinate British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli , who wants to pass an anti-corruption law. Jacob murders the initiator of the plot, the Earl of Cardigan .

Jacob is contacted by Maxwell Roth, the leader of the Templar-controlled gang, the Blighters. Roth offers to betray the Templars and Starrick and to form an alliance with the Rooks. Jacob accepts the offer. After assisting Roth in multiple missions against Starrick, the unequal couple's newly formed alliance falls apart when Roth trick Jacob into blowing him up in a building full of child laborers. Jacob infiltrates the headquarters of Roth in the Alhambra Theater and murders the latter, while the latter has started a fire in the theater, from which Jacob can barely escape.

Meanwhile Evie looks for clues to the Eden relic and manages to steal an assassin document from the Templar Lucy Thorne. In analyzing the document, Evie discovers that the Eden relic is the shroud of Eden, which can heal any injury, including age, and make its wearer immortal. She follows the trail of clues and finds a map under the former mansion of Edward Kenway (see Black Flag ), which shows in detail all of the assassin's vaults hidden in London. Your further search leads you to famous landmarks like the Great Fire Monument of London and St Paul's Cathedral . She receives a key that gives access to the vault in which the shroud is located. The key is stolen from her by Lucy Thorne. Evie goes to the Tower of London , where the vault with the Edentuch is and murders Lucy Thorne. Thorne explains to her that the shroud is not in the Tower and claims that the assassins have no idea of the real power of the shroud before she dies for good.

Henry Green believes that the actual vaults in Buckingham Palace are hidden and that the help of Maharajah Duleep Singh is needed to find the clues for the building. Unfortunately, the Templars can decipher the clues first. In addition to her hunt for the Eden scarf, Evie also helps correct the unintended consequences that Jacobs assassinations and actions caused in London. Evie helps nurse Florence Nightingale get a truckload of life-saving medicine for the sick as Jacob's sabotage of Richard Owen's syrup factory is causing general medicine shortages across London. Evie is also holding back the threat of currency inflation caused by a flood of counterfeit money. Inspector Abberline points out to Evie that the counterfeit money was stolen from printing plates because Jacob's assassination attempt on banker Twopenny led to general chaos in the Bank of England.

When all of his Templar commanders have been murdered by the Assassin Twins and his power is noticeably shrinking, Starrick decides to find the Edentuch personally. Meanwhile, the twins quarrel. Evie accuses Jacob of recklessness and hasty action and that she has to correct the problems he has caused over and over again, while Jacob accuses Evie of obvious inaction. At the height of the argument, Henry Green warns the Frye twins that Starrick is planning to break into Buckingham Palace to steal the Shroud and kill all high-ranking Church and State officials. Despite their differences, the Frye twins decide to work together again to put an end to Starrick's business. The twins infiltrate a dance ball held at the palace where they meet Queen Victoria and Starrick. Starrick plans to use snipers to murder the prominent company at the ball, but Jacob can barely prevent this.

Meanwhile, Starrick finds the vault in the garden of Buckingham Palace and takes the Eden cloth, which gives him superhuman strength and the regeneration of his wounds. The twins, along with Henry Green, manage to defeat and kill Starrick. After the battle, Jacob and Evie bring the shroud back to the vault to protect it from abuse by the Templars. In recognition of their actions, Queen Victoria proposes the Frye twins to be knights and keepers of the British Empire. The two siblings reconcile and decide to work together in the future.

In the present, when the whereabouts of the Eden Shawl is known from the Helix memory, Shaun, Rebecca and the Russian assassin Galina Voronina set out for the vault to recover the Eden Shroud. Unfortunately, the Templars Otso Berg, da Costa and Ardant have already found the Eden cloth and are about to recover it. The three assassins decide to attack the Templar trio to steal the cloth, and a fierce battle ensues. Rebeca can save her fellow assassin Sean from an approaching bullet by throwing herself into the line of fire. She is badly wounded in the process. During the fight, the Templar da Costa escaped with the Eden cloth when a Sigma unit of the Templars stormed the vault. When the assassins hack into Isabel's computer, they find out that the Templars want to use the Eden cloth to construct a living precursor. The visual record also shows that the goddess Juno is secretly manipulating certain employees in Abstergo in order to realize her own plans with the Eden scarf.

After completing the present reminder, the player has the option of accepting secret missions for Queen Victoria, which serve to protect the government and the British Empire.

Side tasks and economics

Child labor in a wool factory (early 20th century), one of the gambler's tasks is to free children from the factories

A special focus is on the conquest of the individual London districts, which are initially still controlled by the Templars and their gang - the Blighters. Conquering the districts reduces the presence of the enemy gang and unlocks new items and tasks.

The player has four different options to conquer the district:

  • Bounty hunting (a criminal Templar must be handed over to Inspector Abberline )
  • Templar hunt (a high-ranking Templar must be murdered)
  • Child exemption from factories (a certain number of child workers must be exempted from a factory)
  • Gang quarters (all enemy blighters must be eliminated in the quarters, as a side task, friendly rooks can be freed or the opponent's battle plans burned)

After successfully conquering a borough , the player takes his rook gang against the leader and his gang in a street fight. If the player defeats the leader and the members of the enemy gang, the district belongs to the rooks.

economy

Money and items can either be bought, found or received as a mission reward. Current income is obtained from the safe on the train. There is an option to increase income through the gear upgrade menu. The player can obtain materials for production by opening hidden chests in the city. Weapons, equipment and clothing can only be crafted if the player finds a crafting template in the chests, or they are awarded as a mission reward after successfully completing a memory or side quest. Some pieces of equipment can only be constructed using certain crafting materials.

Furthermore, the player can use the gear upgrade menu to better equip his gears and improve their combat performance. It can also combat abilities of his opponents a penalty put.

Side tasks

Cargo theft

The player has the option to steal a horse-drawn carriage from the enemy Blighters, either from a guarded backyard or as an escort on the streets.

Car escort

The player must safely accompany a horse-drawn carriage of his gang to a corresponding gangway area. If you take on the job, the carriage is attacked by the enemy blighters on the way to the quarters.

Train robbery

The player can rob an enemy train of the Blighters. To do this, he has to board the train and take out the enemy guards and scouts and find the hidden boxes .

Smuggler boat

The player can ambush a Blighters smuggling boat and destroy the cargo on it with the help of nitro and dynamite boxes . Optionally, the boss of the smugglers can also be killed, which brings more money and experience points.

Boat raids

As soon as the player enters the Blighters' boat, a reverse timer starts . Within the specified time, the player must first eliminate the captain of the ship and take the load directory in his possession. Second, he marks the Blighters' cargo boxes on the ship.

Juno's time anomaly

Juno contacts the player personally through the helix simulation and shows him a new memory segment by Lydia Frye from the time of the First World War .

Lydia Frye is Jacob's grandchild. Jacob has a son who has also been drafted into the fraternity. He marries and has a child named Lydia Frye, born in 1893. She too was accepted into the brotherhood and trained by her grandparents. She later marries an assassin named Sam Crowder, but keeps her maiden name.

When the First World War broke out, Lydia stayed in London to fight German spies and Templar terrorists. In 1916, at the behest of Winston Churchill , Lydia infiltrated and destroyed a German Templar espionage facility in Tower Bridge . In exchange for her services, Churchill promises Lydia that he would do whatever he could to promote equality for women when he returned to Parliament after the war. In the course of her missions, Lydia conquers every single Templar area in London and kills German spies and Templar commanders in the process. For every job Lydia has completed, Juno appears and tells the player something about her past. Finally, she wishes that she and the Assassin Brotherhood could work together in the future.

Gameplay

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is again an open-world game from a third-person perspective . What is new is that you can switch between two main characters who have slightly different skills. Evie Frye's style of play should be based more on a secret approach, while Jacob Frye acts more ruthlessly. Various weapons such as a khukri , a stick dagger, a six-shot revolver or a brass knuckle are available to the player. Also new is the introduction of a launchable hook with a rope attached, which allows the player to pull himself up. You can also acquire skills for yourself and for your gait.

In contrast to its predecessors, there is neither a co-op multiplayer mode nor a competitive multiplayer mode. The reason given for this was that Ubisoft wanted to concentrate fully on the single player mode.

Leak

There was already a leak on December 2, 2014 , which showed material from a future Assassin's Creed. The alleged title was named Assassin's Creed Victory and the setting in the Victorian era became known. The new game mechanics of the grappling hook also became known prematurely through this leak. Ubisoft itself commented shortly after the leak, announcing that the game had been in development for a few years and that it would later be officially revealed as the expansion of Assassin's Creed Unity would continue to take precedence.

On May 11, 2015, one day before the official announcement, there was another leak. It was already announced that there would be two main characters, one of which should be female. The two have also been described as siblings. Ubisoft confirmed this on May 12th in its own blog entry, but did not address the leak itself.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack was written by the American composer Austin Wintory .
