The Shanghai – Chengdu or Hurong motorway ( Chinese  沪 蓉 高速公路 , Pinyin Hùróng gāosù gōnglù , English Hurong Expressway ), Chinese abbreviation G42 , is a fully completed motorway in China since December 27, 2014 , with a length of 1966 km. It begins in the west of the metropolis of Shanghai and heads west via Suzhou , Nanjing , Hefei , Wuhan and Chongqing to Chengdu in the Sichuan province . The highway crosses the Yangtze near Nanjing with the Third Nanjing-Yangtze Bridge .
