Chemnitz-Zwickau agglomeration

The Chemnitz - Zwickau agglomeration is one of three agglomerations in the Free State of Saxony and one of the largest densely populated areas in Germany . Together with the agglomeration of Leipzig-Halle , it belongs to the metropolitan region of Central Germany . The metropolitan area is located in the southwest of Saxony and extends parallel to the Ore Mountains ridge .

The greater Chemnitz-Zwickau area is accessible by the A 72 and A 4 motorways. The central motorway junction in the region is the Chemnitz junction , where the A72 motorway from Hof ​​to Leipzig (third section from Chemnitzer Kreuz to Borna) and the A4 motorway from Bad Hersfeld via Eisenach , Chemnitz, Dresden to Görlitz intersect .

The regional center of the Chemnitz-Zwickau agglomeration is one of the most important economic areas in the new federal states. The gross domestic product in 2004 was around 6.3 billion euros. This corresponds to around 25,100 euros per inhabitant or 43,100 euros per employed person. The local and regional economic structure is primarily shaped by the automotive, mechanical engineering and metal processing industries. But the solar industry has also discovered the Chemnitz-Zwickau agglomeration as a production location. The region is one of the fastest growing in Germany.
