Bojan Krkić Pérez ( Serbian - Cyrillic Бојан Кркић Перез ; born August 28, 1990 in Linyola ) is a Spanish - Serbian football player .

Career

In the club

Krkić, son of a Serbian father and a Spanish mother, was accepted into La Masia , FC Barcelona's youth academy , in 1999 and broke numerous club records in his six years there. After a year with the second team of FC Barcelona, he signed a contract for the professional team for the 2007/08 season . He made his debut in the Primera División on September 16, 2007 in the game against CA Osasuna .

On September 19, 2007 Krkić made his Champions League debut in the game against Olympique Lyon when he came on for Lionel Messi in the 88th minute . At 17 years and 22 days, he is the youngest football player to have played in the Champions League for FC Barcelona. On October 20, 2007, he scored his first goal for the professional team of FC Barcelona in the game against FC Villarreal . At 17 years, 1 month and 22 days he was the club's youngest goalscorer and replaced Lionel Messi. On April 1, 2008, he scored his first goal in the Champions League against FC Schalke 04 and replaced Cesc Fàbregas as the second youngest CL goal scorer at the age of 17 and 216 days . Only Peter Ofori-Quaye from Olympiacos was younger when he made his goal debut in 1997 at 17 years and 195 days. On May 27, 2009 he won the Champions League title with FC Barcelona in the final against Manchester United , but without being used in the final. In December 2010, Krkić extended his contract term with FC Barcelona until 2015. The transfer fee was increased from 80 to 100 million euros . In 2011 he won the Champions League for the second time in his career with FC Barcelona. However, Krkić was usually only played as a substitute. After the Catalans signed Alexis Sánchez , he received clearance to change clubs.

On July 20, 2011 AS Roma signed Krkić. The transfer fee was twelve million euros. On August 29, 2012, AC Milan loaned him for the 2012/13 season . Since AC Milan did not use the purchase option for 15 million euros at the end of the 2012/13 season, FC Barcelona was obliged to buy back Krkić. For the 2013/14 season he was loaned to Ajax Amsterdam . For the 2014/15 season Krkić moved to the Premier League at Stoke City ; he signed a contract that initially ran until June 30, 2018.

At the end of January 2017 he was awarded to the Bundesliga for 1. FSV Mainz 05 until the end of the 2016/17 season . There he scored his only goal in the Bundesliga in a 2-2 draw against FC Bayern Munich on April 22, 2017.

In the summer of 2017, Krkić initially returned to Stoke City and played once in the Premier League. On August 31, 2017, he joined Deportivo Alavés for a season on loan . He then returned to Stoke City, who had since been relegated from the Premier League. At the beginning of August 2019, his contract was terminated.

Shortly thereafter, he moved to Canada to Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer .

National team

The fast and agile striker first drew attention to himself at the U-17 European Championship in 2006 when he was crowned top scorer with five goals together with Manuel Fischer and Tomáš Necid . The following year he won the European Championship with the Spanish U-17 and was voted player of the tournament. Krkić's goal in the final to make it 1-0 against England secured Spain the title.

At the subsequent U-17 World Cup in 2007 , Krkić scored five goals and led Spain to the final against Nigeria. Since he was thrown off the pitch in the semi-final against Ghana with yellow-red shortly before the end of the game, he was suspended for the final; Spain promptly lost to Nigeria on penalties. After the tournament, he was voted the third best player of the tournament after Toni Kroos and Macauley Chrisantus .

On February 1, 2008, Krkić was nominated by Spain's then national coach Luis Aragonés for the friendly against France in Paris on February 6, 2008 and could have become the youngest Spanish national player of all time. However, Aragonés had to forego his planned mission because Krkić had gastrointestinal flu.

In agreement with his parents, his coach and his club, FC Barcelona, Krkić decided not to take part in the 2008 European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland. The reason for the decision was that he should be spared after he had been exposed to a high level of stress from the many missions in the past season. After the European Championship, he finally made his debut in the Spanish senior team on September 10, 2008 against Armenia .

In 2009 he took part in the European Championship with the Spanish U-21 selection, which was considered the title favorite . The team was eliminated in the group stage. Krkić played in the first two group matches against Germany (0-0) and England (0-2).

In the adult area, Krkić also plays for the Catalan football team , which however does not take part in tournaments organized by Fifa.

Especially since Krkić did not develop as desired, it has remained with an international match for Spain's selection. In view of his poor chances of being called up again in the Spanish selection, Krkić tried to work with the Serbian association to get hold of Serbia. Due to his commitment to Spain in a competitive match, FIFA refused to make the move.

family

Krkić's father Bojan Krkić senior also played football at OFK Belgrade and worked for FC Barcelona in the youth department from 1997 to 2011.
