Career
Brett Clark began his career in the 1994/95 season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Melville Millionaires . The following season he moved to the University of Maine for a year , where he played for their university team in the Hockey East , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Following the season, he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the sixth round as a total of 154 players by the Canadiens de Montréal .
After spending the 1996/97 season with the Canadian national team , Clark went on ice in the 1997/98 season for the first time in professional ice hockey for the then Montréals farm team , the Fredericton Canadiens from the American Hockey League . In the same season he made his debut in the National Hockey League for Montréal. The following year, the defender scored four points in 61 NHL games, including two goals.
On June 25, 1999, Clark was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers through the Expansion Draft . During his two and a half years in Atlanta, his greatest achievement was winning the Turner Cup with Atlanta's then farm team, the Orlando Solar Bears of the International Hockey League . On January 24th, 2002, Clark was given to the Colorado Avalanche by the Thrashers in exchange for Frédéric Cassivi . In his first two years in Colorado, Clark came exclusively for their then AHL farm team, the Hershey Bears , before he played for Avalanche in the NHL in twelve regular season games at the end of the 2003/04 season. During the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , Clark again spent the entire season with the Hershey Bears. Since the resumption of play in the NHL in 2005, however, the Canadian played exclusively in the NHL team Colorado.
In a total of six seasons and 381 games for the Denver franchise , the defender scored 32 goals and 134 points, his defensive behavior was particularly characterized by high physical effort; in the 2008/09 NHL season he blocked 238 shots, which were the second most in the league . In the following season , Brett Clark was in the lead within the team in this category, but his contract was not extended.
On July 5, 2010, the Canadian signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning . In January 2013 he joined the Oklahoma City Barons from the American Hockey League as a clubless player , for which Clark completed 18 games and booked 17 scorer points, including 16 assists. In March 2013, the Canadian was signed by the Minnesota Wild , where he mainly acted as a substitute. He then spent a season with the Lake Erie Monsters . After the 2013/14 season, the defender ended his active career and has since been employed as a development consultant for his ex-team Colorado Avalanche.
