The Helfenburk Castle (German: Helfenburg ) is a ruined castle five kilometers east of the town of Bavorov in Okres Strakonice . It is located on the 683 m high Malošín mountain.
history
Helfenburk Castle was built after 1355 by the brothers Peter , Jobst , Johann and Ulrich von Rosenberg with the permission of the Bohemian King Charles IV . It was the seat of power, the same name the town Bavorov and Strunkovice and villages Hracholusky , Vitějovice , Žernovice , Nebahovy , Svojnice, Žíchovec, Lhota Nová, two villages called Lhota, Leskovec, Blanice Svinětice, Budyně , Netonice, Radějovice , Kváskovice , Skály , Zaluží, Měkynec , Krajníčko , Štětín, Útěšov and Hájek , and a settlement was added in the second half of the 15th century. Wok II von Rosenberg sold part of the estate to Johann von Schwanberg in 1475 for 5500 Hungarian guilders , Peter IV von Rosenberg bought it back in 1503 from Ulrich and Heinrich Prüschenck von Stettenberg and reunited it with the Helfenburg.
In 1593, the last Rosenberg, Peter Wok von Rosenberg, sold the Helfenburg estate with the then already abandoned Helfenburg to the city of Prachatice . From 1622 the castle was owned by the Bohemian noble family Schwanberg, who were followed in 1719 by the Schwarzenbergs . After the land reform of 1919, the castle came to Czechoslovakia, which was founded in 1918 . The fortifications were then renewed in the 1920s. In 1977 the keep was converted into a lookout tower.
