Cerdeira is a Portuguese village in the parish ( Freguesia ) of Lousã, in the district ( concelho ) of Lousã .

history

The first documents on the site date from 1679 and 1687 .

In the course of the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula , French troops retreated through the Serra da Lousã in 1811 , but the village of Cerdeira remained undiscovered.

In 1911 the village numbered 75 people. After the first seasonal emigrations to Lisbon and the Alentejo , emigrations to Brazil followed in the 1940s and to North America in the 1950s. In 1970 only 18 people lived here, in 1977 it was completely abandoned and fell into disrepair.

Cerdeira is now part of the network of slate villages of the Aldeias do Xisto , and is a listed building and thanks to its new residents (8 families) has not only been restored, but has been brought back to life.

The Cerdeira - Home for Creativity project turns this space into a retreat for artists, nature lovers and people looking for silence. In addition to 9 holiday homes, there are artist residences, a café, a small library, a seminar house and studio rooms. From March to October courses are offered, from ceramics, wood carving or drawing, nature and professional international artists are the teachers.

A special piece is the SASUKENEI - smokeless wood-burning stove for ceramics, built by the Japanese master Masakazu Kusakabe,
