Che'Nelle
Che'Nelle ( Japanese シ ェ ネ ル , real name: Cheryline Ernestine Lim; born March 10, 1983 in Kota Kinabalu , Malaysia ) is a Malaysian singer with Chinese / Australian roots. She made her debut in the music business in 2007 and signed her first recording deal with EMI and Capitol Records .
Since 2010 she has been working mainly in Japan and has already recorded some Japanese-language songs.
Life
Cheryline Lim was born on March 10, 1983 in the capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah , Kota Kinabalu. She has a Chinese father and mother who has Indian and Dutch roots but was born in Australia. When she was ten, she moved with her family to Perth , which is in Australia .
On May 1, 2013 it was announced that she would marry the choreographer G. Medison and had been with him for four years. The marriage was finally registered shortly thereafter on May 3rd.
Career
Sir Charles Dixon discovered her talent after uploading her own songs to Myspace . Dixon passed the material on to Virgin Records and the record company had it flown to New York in late 2005 to speak to the record company representative. The record label's chairman Jason Flom immediately signed her. After two days, she signed the contract and was described as a world artist. However, she is under contract with EMI in Australia .
She was able to prove her first musical steps on the tour of Kanye West , where she appeared as the opening act on his Australia tour in March 2006.
Her debut album Things Happen for a Reason was released on August 22, 2007 in the US , then on September 25 and October 29, 2007 in Japan and Australia . The first single was I Fell in Love with the DJ and was also a featuring with the musician Cham . The song was also produced in Malaysian and was called DJ yang Ku Puja .
She also wrote songs like Fierce , by Carmit Bachar , Hell No! , by Ricki-Lee , and Can't Breath , by Leona Lewis , with.
She released her second studio album on February 10, 2010, under the name Feel Good . From this, the first single was the title of the same name Feel Good and the second was Missing . Among other things, the album had featurings with Shaggy and Colby O'Donis . However, the album could not build on the minor success of Things Happen for a Reason and she turned focused on the Japanese music market.
Success in Japan
In 2011 she tried her first cover album called Luv Songs by singing and singing popular Japanese songs into English, and the album also contained covers by American artists such as Ne-Yo and Whitney Houston . The album landed at number 3 on the Oricon charts and sold more than 350,000 times. The main success was due to the song Baby I Love U , which is an English cover version of the song of the same name by the Japanese singer Tee . They later even collaborated on a new edition of the song.
In Japan she released her first single called Story on April 4, 2012. The single could reach number 15 on the Oricon charts, and the title track was a mix of Japanese and English ; thus Story fell into the J-Pop category .
The third studio album was called Believe and was released on June 4, 2012 and it was studded with several J-Pop songs. She also covered Mika Nakashima with the song Stars and Miho Nakayama with the song You're My Only Shinin 'Star . In the first week of sales the album was able to build up to number 3 in the charts, in the following week the album was able to secure itself to number 2 and stayed in the top 10 of the Oricon charts for nine weeks. The album was also able to build on the success of Luv Songs , as it has sold more than 250,000 units. Both albums were also awarded platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) . With the title song of the same name from the Believe album, it also entered the RIAJ digital track charts for the first time at number 1 .
On November 9, 2012, she released a download EP for the first time , entitled Touch (Close to You) .
Her studio album Believe won Che'Nelle, in the Western category Album of the Year ( dt. Album of the Year), the Japan Gold Disc Award . The album was also able to win an award in the western category Best 3 Albums . In the western category Song of the Year by Download ( Eng. Download Song of the Year), she won another award for the song Believe . The song Believe also won in the category 5 Songs by Download Best , also won in the category Artist of the Year ( dt. Artist of the Year), in the same awards ceremony, in 2013. In rule the Western category Artist of the Year only won by internationally known and successful artists, this and the win of five prizes at a ceremony, set another milestone for her.
On January 18, 2013, she released a deluxe version of her album Believe . As a bonus there were the songs Believe and Story , sung in Chinese . Together with David Guetta , she released a new recording of the hit Titanium in Japan, which was originally sung by Sia (singer) . The piece was released as a download single on February 6, 2013 on various music portals. The second verse of the song is sung entirely in Japanese. The first preview of their next download single was uploaded to YouTube on April 18, 2013 . The song is called I Will and was released on April 26, 2013. Finally, on June 19, another download single Burning Love ( Japanese バ ー ニ ン グ ・ ラ ヴ ) was released and then on August 7, the fourth Japanese studio album Aishiteru ( Japanese ア イ シ テ ル ) was released. The album has sold more than 60,000 copies so far and climbed to fifth place in the first week of sales, the weekly Oricon charts, and rose to number 2 in the second week. The first compilation was announced on December 4, 2013 entitled Best Songs , which consists of their most successful songs from Things Happen for a Reason to Aishiteru . It was also added to the product description that Baby I Love U has been downloaded three million times in Japan and Believe 1.7 million times.
Since 2014: Market outside Japan, Luv Songs 2 and Che'Nelle World
In June 2014 she released her second cover album entitled Luv Songs 2 , which could not tie in with the success of Luv Songs . In the same month, she also published her mixtape Revolution internationally , which is stylized REVOLuTion , from which the English word Revolt (in German Revolte ) is emphasized. The mixtape was offered for free download on her official website , provided that you have a code that you could get at some of the events where she performed in the United States . Later in late October, she released her single Happiness as a download and a week later in November on CD. It is her second Japanese single to be released in CD format and her best-selling, despite a high of # 25 in the Oricon charts, selling more than 20,000 copies. The song was legally downloaded more than 320,000 times on the Japanese iTunes portal and was ultimately awarded 2 times platinum for 500,000 legal downloads.
Her fourth Japanese studio album Che'Nelle World was released on February 11, 2015 in Japan and includes collaborations with Crystal Kay , Nao Matsushita and Thelma Aoyama . Che'Nelle also took a step back into the western music industry that same month with a collaboration between her and reggae artist Shifta called Do You Wanna . From this studio album it was decided to make an international single with the song Fierce , which was released internationally in April of that year. The music video for it did not follow until October 20, 2015.
