Chlebnice is a municipality in northern central Slovakia with 1618 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Dolný Kubín within Žilinský kraj and at the same time in the traditional Orava landscape .
geography
The municipality is located below the Skorušinské vrchy mountain range on the Chlebnický brook , which belongs to the Orava catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 594 m nm and is 21 kilometers from Dolný Kubín .
history
The place was founded around the middle of the 16th century under Wallachian law and belonged to the estate of the Arwaburg . The first inhabitants came from the neighboring village of Dlhá nad Oravou . The village was first mentioned in writing in 1564 as Chlewanica . In 1629 a wooden church was built, which was replaced by a brick church in 1763–67. In 1778 there were 526 inhabitants and in 1828 153 houses and 1035 inhabitants.
Until 1918, the place in Arwa County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today's Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, Chlebnice had 1587 inhabitants, of which 1573 were Slovaks and three Czechs; two residents were of a different ethnicity. Nine residents gave no answer. 1562 residents belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, five residents professed to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Czechoslovak-Hussite Church. 64 residents had no denomination and 29 residents had no denomination.
