Istebné (Hungarian Isztebne ) is a municipality in Okres Dolný Kubín within Žilinský kraj in Slovakia .

The place is in the valley of the river Orava (Eng. Arwa ) in the historical Orava landscape , below the easternmost foothills of the Little Fatra and on the western edges of the mountain areas Oravská vrchovina and Oravská Magura .
History and culture
In the district of Hrádok are several finds, z. B. a silver treasure from the Hallstatt period and a fortification of the Puchau culture can be proven. The place was first mentioned in writing in 1316 as Istebna . In 1382 the place was assigned to the lower noble family Dávid , since the 18th century it was owned by the Csillághy and Ambrozy families . The place itself was an agricultural community, despite the poor soil.
A steel mill was founded in 1952, but it is closed today.
Sights include a baroque-classicist country palace from the 18th century, which is now used as a children's home, and an evangelical articulated church . It was built entirely of wood in accordance with the regulations in 1686 and a ship was added in 1730. A free-standing bell tower was added at the beginning of the 19th century . The church is one of the five remaining articulated churches.
