Pribiš (Hungarian Pribis ) is a municipality in the north-center of Slovakia with 461 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Dolný Kubín within Žilinský kraj and at the same time in the traditional Orava landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the south-eastern part of the Oravská vrchovina mountains in the valley of the Pribiš brook in the Orava catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 643 m nm and is 16 kilometers away from Dolný Kubín .
Neighboring municipalities are Horná Lehota in the north, Chlebnice in the east, Malatiná in the south, Pucov in the west and Oravský Podzámok in the north-west.
history
Pribiš arose around the middle of the 16th century under Wallachian law and was first mentioned in writing in 1567. The village belonged to the dominion of the Arwaburg and was administered by inheritors. In 1828 there were 87 houses and 504 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, cattle farmers, and vegetable and ox traders.
The place in Arwa County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Pribiš had 466 inhabitants, all of them Slovaks .
463 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church AB. One resident was non-denominational and the denomination of one resident was not determined.
