Venue in 1947 in Ecuador

The Campeonato Sudamericano from 1947 was the 20th game of the South American continental championship in football and took place for the first time in Ecuador from November 30th to December 31st. With the exception of Brazil , all 8 former members of CONMEBOL were at the start, which was a new record participation and also led to new records for games and goals.

The tournament was played as before in the league system (everyone against everyone). If there was a tie in first place, a playoff was planned. It was played exclusively in the Estadio George Capwell in Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador. Usually two games were played one after the other in a double event on one day.

Argentina celebrated a title hat-trick after 1945 and 1946 and became the South American champions in football for the ninth time without defeat and thus also the sole record holder. The team included u. a. the later world star Alfredo Di Stéfano .
