The Intel Core Duo series is a family of 32-bit microprocessors for computers. Together with the single core variant, Core Solo, these dual core processors represent the successors of the Pentium M CPUs.

General

The Core Duo contains two interconnected cores that share a common L2 cache (shared cache). With Intel's first dual-core Pentium D processors , the L2 cache was still available individually for both cores. In addition, Speedstep works separately for both cores in the dual-core version, which means that the power consumption can be kept at a lower level.

Since the beginning of 2007, notebooks with “ Pentium Dual-Core ” have also been on the market. It is actually a core duo processor (Yonah core).

With the introduction of the Core Duo processor series, Apple switched its computers to Intel CPUs.

successor

The complete replacement of the NetBurst architecture of the Intel Pentium 4 and its derivatives decided by Intel is carried out by the Core 2 processors. These have the core micro-architecture , which has been further improved compared to the core . The direct successor was the Intel Core 2 Duo .
