Hamburg-Cranz is a Hamburg district in the far west of the Harburg district . Cranz is located immediately south of the Elbe .

geography

The place is located on the Lower Elbe and the Este and is geographically the easternmost place on the second mile of the Old Country , which extends from the Lühe to the Este. Accordingly, the local culture is also shaped by fruit growing . Like the surrounding Alte Land, Cranz is a popular destination for Hamburgers.

The development is almost exclusively on and on the dikes of the Elbe and Este. The hinterland is used for fruit growing.

history

Cranz was first mentioned in a document in 1341. The name indicates the peculiarity of the settlement, the houses being built directly on the dykes, so that they lay in a wreath-like manner on the banks of the Este and Lühe rivers . During the Thirty Years' War the village became Swedish in 1645 before the Danes took over in 1712. After the German-Danish War of 1864, Cranz came to the Kingdom of Hanover , with which it was annexed by Prussia in 1866 .

Due to the Greater Hamburg Act of 1937 was the only place the second mile of the Cranz old country after Hamburg amalgamated (the third mile east of Este was completely hamburgisch). Before it belonged to the Prussian administrative district of Stade . The Evangelical Lutheran Christians in Cranz still belong to the parish of St. Martini ( Estebrugge ) in the Stade parish of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

In the 1970s, the four-storey Estebogen settlement was built in the extreme south of the district, where mainly shipyard workers of Turkish origin from the nearby Sietas shipyard in Neuenfelde live.
