DeLand Southwest is a census-designated place (CDP) in Volusia County in the US state of Florida with a population of 1052 (as of 2010).

geography

DeLand Southwest borders the city of DeLand in the northeast and is about 40 km north of Orlando . The CDP is affected by US Highways 17 and 92 ( SR 15 and 600 ) and Florida State Road 15A .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 1052 inhabitants were distributed over 473 households. The population density was 657.5 inh / km². 20.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 69.6% as African American , 1.0% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 5.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.1% to several ethnic groups. 14.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 28.3% of all households lived in 38.1% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 68.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.87 people and the average family size was 3.38 people.

31.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 48.2% of the population were male and 51.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 27,240, with 34.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 93.81% of the population and 6.19% spoke Spanish .
