Daytona Beach Shores is a city in Volusia County in the US state of Florida with 4247 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Daytona Beach Shores is located on a barrier island between the Halifax River (part of the Intracoastal Waterway ) and the Atlantic Ocean on Florida's east coast. Adjacent cities are Daytona Beach , South Daytona and Port Orange . The city is located around 35 km northeast of DeLand and around 80 km northeast of Orlando .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 4247 inhabitants at that time were distributed across 6181 households (most of them are holiday homes used as second homes). The population density was 1846.5 inhabitants / km². 94.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.8% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 2.2% as Asian Americans . 0.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.6% to several ethnic groups. 2.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 59.6% of all households lived in 5.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 52.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.73 people and the average family size was 2.22 people.
6.2% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 9.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 61.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 65 years. 48.8% of the population were male and 51.2% were female.
The median annual income was $ 42,591, with 8.5% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.35% of the population, 2.63% spoke German and 5.02% had another mother tongue.
