South Daytona is a city in Volusia County in the US state of Florida with 12,252 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
South Daytona is located on the Halifax River , part of the Intracoastal Waterway on Florida's east coast. The city is directly adjacent to the cities of Daytona Beach (north), Daytona Beach Shores (east) and Port Orange (south). It is located about 30 km northeast of DeLand and about 80 km northeast of Orlando .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 12,252 inhabitants were distributed over 6,478 households. The population density was 1276.3 inh / km². 84.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 10.9% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.1% as Asian Americans . 1.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 5.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 30.9% of all households lived in 24.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 57.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.75.
20.7% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 24.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 25.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 48.5% of the population were male and 51.5% were female.
The median annual income was $ 34,290, with 22.5% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 93.12% of the population, 4.58% spoke Spanish and 2.30% had another mother tongue.

South Daytona is crossed and tangent to by US Highway 1 and Florida State Roads 5A and 400 . The nearest airport is Daytona Beach International Airport (around 5 km northwest).

The crime rate in 2010 was 353 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were eleven robberies, 72 assaults, 179 break-ins, 395 thefts and 52 car thefts.
