Ponce Inlet is a city in Volusia County in the US state of Florida with 3,032 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Ponce Inlet is directly adjacent to the cities of Port Orange (northwest) and New Smyrna Beach (southeast) and lies on the Atlantic Ocean and on the Halifax River (part of the Intracoastal Waterway ) on the east coast of Florida. The city is located about 40 km east of DeLand and about 80 km northeast of Orlando .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 3032 inhabitants were distributed among 2958 households. The population density was 270.7 inh / km². 97.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.1% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 0.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.3% to several ethnic groups. 1.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 50.7% of all households lived in 10.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 66.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.98 people and the average family size was 2.35 people.

9.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 9.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 52.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 61 years. 49.4% of the population were male and 50.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 69,944, with 4.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 97.05% of the population, 1.67% spoke Spanish and 1.28% spoke German .

Attractions

On September 22, 1972, the Ponce De Leon Inlet Lightstation was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Ponce Inlet is affected by US Highway 1 ( SR A1A ). The nearest airport is Daytona Beach International Airport (around 15 km northwest).

The crime rate in 2010 was 66 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There was one robbery, nine break-ins and 28 thefts.
